Registration for faith formation 2020-2021 at St. Denis is now closed. If you have not yet registered your child and would like them to be included in this year's program, please conntact our Faith Formation Director, Matt Brady, at [email protected]
Format for Grades 1-8:
This year all classes will be conducted over Zoom in live time following a slightly modified version of last year's schedule (more details below). Classes will begin with a group prayer and then break off into groups for their lesson. Depending on the number of catechists I have, groups will be broken up by grade or a combination of grades.
Since lessons will continue to include some form of craft or activity, we will need your help in providing supplies for them. Our goal is to keep them simple, so the supplies needed will include things like printouts, crayons/markers, scissors, glue. Your child's catechist will let you know what they need in advance of class.
Grades 9 and 10:
For Confirmation prep, we are using a hybrid program for each grade that consists of a series of online modules and occasional face-to-face meetings over Zoom. All of the details will be provided at the first meeting for each grade.
Classes start on Sunday Sept. 20 and end on May 25 and will meet every 2 weeks. The times are mostly the same as last year, but in some cases they have been adjusted slightly- for example the Sunday morning class is now 9-10 instead of 9:20-10:20- so please look at them carefully on the registration form.
For those unable to commit to a day and time, a homeschooling option is available for grades 1-8. Students in grade 9 and 10 should still complete the online modules as normal.
As always, we are in need of catechists to help with all grades. If you are interested in volunteering, there is a space to mark it on the registration form.
The cost for the year is $80. Payment is not due at this time, but for those of you who would like to get it done at the same time as you register you can mail a check to the rectory or pay online here on the page that says faith formation:2020-2021 Student Payment
Waivers are available for those who need it. Please contact Matt Brady about this.
Our Faith Formation program begins in grade 1, and we offer classes for students from grade 1 to grade 10.
We would be pleased to welcome you to our program!
Preparing to receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a 2 year process, usually spanning Grades 1 and 2 (older children who have not yet received these sacraments are welcome!). First Reconciliation is celebrated in the winter of Year 2, and First Eucharist is celebrated in the spring of Year 2. Preparation includes parent-child retreats ahead of each Sacrament.
Preparation for Confirmation is a 2 year program, traditionally spanning Grades 9 and 10. Catholic school students, who receive theology on a regular basis, are warmly welcomed. Catholic school students should plan on attending the Confirmation retreat during both years of preparation, and should plan on attending Faith Formation classes through the parish in the second year of preparation.
